Desiree Doherty is improving from injuries sustained in UTV accident

• Love fund established at First State Bank in Kiowa

South Barber High School sophomore Desiree Doherty was seriously injured in a UTV accident two days before school started and has been in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita since. At Kiowa's Labor Day celebration in the park, friends of Doherty hung this sign. All proceeds go to the Desiree Doherty Love Fund established for her family at the First State Bank in Kiowa.

Since she was seriously injured in a UTV accident Aug. 22, Kiowa, Kansas, teen Desiree Doherty has been in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.

She is the 15 year-old daughter of John and Mariah Doherty of Kiowa who have been at her side since the accident.

A call to Mrs. Doherty Tuesday found that the lumbar drain was taken out that afternoon. This drainage problem had again kept Doherty in ICU. Her mother said once doctors determine that everything is working, she'll hopefully get to return to a regular room.
