Rangers take on UAM in home opener Saturday

September 8, 2017

The Northwestern Rangers will host Arkansas-Monticello Saturday in their home opener at 6 p.m. Saturday at Ranger Stadium.

NWOSU is coming off a close loss to Ouachita Baptist, 31-28, last week. In that game, the Rangers were down by 7 at halftime but fought back to narrow the final gap. New quarterback Isiah Weed, a Minot State transfer, completed 19 of 27 attempts for 178 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore Jacob Peyton and redshirt junior Anthony Cota teamed up for 136 yards and the other two TD’s for the Rangers.

Looking at Saturday’s game, Northwestern has won four of their seven encounters with the UAM Boll Weevils, with three of those coming in the last three games. This is the second straight year the Rangers have played UAM in their home opener. Those last two games were high-scoring with the Rangers posting over 50 points each time.

With 72 players returning from last year, Coach Matt Walter and the Rangers will be looking for a fourth straight victory over UAM this weekend.
