Golden Suns earn second-place finish at UCA Cross-Country Challenge

CONWAY, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech cross country team put together a strong performance as the Golden Suns came away from the Central Arkansas Cross Country Challenge with a second-place finish Saturday morning at Beaverfork Lake Park in Conway, Ark.
The Suns scored a 80 as a team in the 4K race, finishing ahead of conference foe Arkansas-Monticello as well as ahead of Division I schools Oral Roberts, Arkansas-Little Rock and Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the 11-team race.
Cami Hedstrom set the pace for the Golden Suns as she completed the 4K with a time of 18:22.8 and coming away with a tenth-place finish.
Freshmen sisters Aubre and Halle Gilreath also finished inside the top 15. Aubre crossed the finish line in 18:40.1 for a 14th place finish (scoring 13th), while Halle crossed the finish line with a time of 18:42.6 for a 15th place finish (scoring 14th).
Mallory Morris finished in 24th (scoring 20th) with a time of 19:12.7 and Logan Edwards rounded out the scoring for the Golden Suns with a time of 19.29.9 for a 28th place finish (scoring 23rd).

Next Saturday, the Golden Suns will travel to Joplin, Mo. for the Southern Stampede hosted by Missouri Southern. Start time for the race is slated for 8 a.m.
