Volleyball Splits Five-Set Matches in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – SWOSU Volleyball concluded its trip to Lubbock at the LCU Chap Classic with a pair of five-set matches on Saturday, splitting the day an even 1-1 by defeating Colorado Christian before falling to Eastern New Mexico. The Bulldogs (3-5) will now set their sights on Great American Conference opponent East Central who will host SWOSU in Ada, Oklahoma on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7 pm for the first conference game of the season. SWOSU 3, Colorado Christian 2 14-25, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 15-13Box Score SWOSU dropped the opening two sets against Colorado Christian by a margin of 18 points, digging themselves a deep 2-0 hole in the match. In a close third set, SWOSU managed to streak two four-point runs together at 12-12 and again winning 19-16 to help claim their first set win of the match. One set later, the Bulldogs used their momentum to grab a 19-10 lead by scoring 10 out of 12 possible points in the middle of the set and would eventually win the frame to knot up the match. In a tight fifth, SWOSU never gave up the lead despite the set featuring four ties as late as 10-10. The offense hit a match-best .375 throughout the set, with 11 kills out of the possible 15 points and managed to only commit two errors. Three players posted double-digit kills in the match, led by Danusia Sipa Borgeaud with 14 while Addie Aman and DeLayni Fine both had 12. Serving wise, the Dawgs earned eight aces with Kaitlyn Dillon responsible for a team-best three. Eastern New Mexico 3, SWOSU 220-25, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15, 9-15Box Score For the third time on the weekend the Dawgs found themselves going the distance in a five-set match and for the second time in only a span of hours, SWOSU was trailing 2-0. This time however, the Bulldogs were unable to climb out of the hole and fell to Eastern New Mexico to conclude their tournament. Hitting .081 and .000 in sets one and two, the Bulldogs found some offense in their victorious third and fourth sets by averaging .188 on the attack. After combining for 12 errors in the opening two frames, SWOSU was sounder in the third and fourth with just six mishaps. ENMU came back alive in the fifth set, stringing together six scores that would go unanswered by the Bulldogs including a four-point spurt to jump ahead to an early 7-3 lead. SWOSU got within one immediately thereafter at 7-6, but could never get over the hump and erase their early deficit. After the 7-6 mark, the Dawgs would only score three more times while the Greyhounds answered every SWOSU score with two of their own to wrap up the match. Borgeaud again the led team in kills with 14, but was the only player in double figures in the category. Defensively, SWOSU was sound by holding ENMU to just a .138 hitting percentage, but only managed to post a .122 percentage themselves on offense. Jenny Tackett assisted on six blocks at the net while five players dug at least 10 balls in the match led by Kaitlyn Dillon with 24.
