Bison Sweep Weekly Honors

September 13, 2017

SHAWNEE – For the first time this season, and the third time in the last two years, Oklahoma Baptist has swept the Great American Conference men's soccer weekly awards. Thiago Dos Santos, Stormy Arledge and Parker Lawter were all awarded for their performances following OBU's first two matches of the 2017 season.

Dos Santos, a sophomore hailing from Natal, Brazil, garnered Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring in both of last week's contest, as well as providing one assist. The forward had a hand in three of OBU's five goals against Oklahoma Christian and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. His goal against OC proved to be the match-winner. It's the first time this season, and second time in his career, to earn the weekly award.

Arledge, a freshman and native of Edmond, Oklahoma, played nearly every available minute of last week's matches, a combined 192 minutes of action. His defensive output helped hold OC to a season-low one goal and he also aided the back line in holding a USAO offense that had averaged 8.33 goals per match over their past three outings to three goals in a double-overtime tie. It's the first time in Alredge's career to be named a conference player of the week.

Lawter, a freshman out of Norman, Oklahoma, made his debut in goal last week for the Bison, posting a 1.80 goals-against average and recording eight saves for the week. Two of Lawter's saves were in the final 10 minutes of overtime in Chickasha to preserve the tie for OBU. This is the first time in his career to be named Goalkeeper of the Week.

The Bison are the first program in the GAC to have at least 20 conference weekly awards to their credit.

Oklahoma Baptist (1-0-1) plays at home for the first time this season when they face Oklahoma City University at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14. It's one of only two chances for fans to catch the Bison at home in the month of September.
