Golden goal gives TAMIU win over Lady Eagles
September 22, 2017
LAREDO, Texas (Sept. 21, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian was on the wrong end of a dramatic finish on Thursday night at Texas A&M International.
A late goal by OC's Darrian Palacios forced overtime, but TAMIU's Cio Bargallo scored twice, including the game-winner less than two minutes into the extra period as the Dustdevils won 2-1 at Dustdevil Field.
OC (1-6, 0-3 Heartland Conference) and TAMIU (2-4-1, 1-3) played on mostly even terms throughout, with TAMIU recording a slight 15-14 edge in shots thanks to Bargallo, who leads the conference with nine goals.
Bargallo scored in the 28th minute off an assist by Susanna Abrahamsson to put TAMIU ahead. Palacios tied the game in the 68th minute, with Courtney Nixon credited with the assist for the Lady Eagles.
In overtime, an OC defender blocked a shot by Bargallo in the 92nd minute, but Bargallo corralled the loose ball and put the rebound past goalkeeper Addison Milner for the game-winner.
Milner, the Heartland's leader in saves, added three to her total against the Dustdevils, while TAMIU goalkeeper Aubrey Hall had seven saves.
OC will return to action Saturday at 1 p.m., when the Lady Eagles visit Heartland rival St. Mary's (Texas).
