Hillcats Suffer First Loss at No. 6 St. Edward's

AUSTIN, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at No. 6-ranked St. Edward's by the score of 2-0 on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 21) at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
In a battle of two of the top teams in the Heartland Conference, the host Hilltoppers (5-0-2, 3-0-1 Heartland Conference) totaled two second half goals to earn the win over the visiting Hillcats (6-1, 3-1). SEU went up 1-0 in the 56th minute on a one-touch goal by Viktoria Malmros inside the box. The Hilltoppers added the insurance goal in the 82nd minute on a tally from India Wentz from a Jenna Lipscomb corner kick.
The Hillcats were limited to only two shots in the game with their first attempt coming in the 65th minute by Melissa Cardenas. Abigail Resendiz added the second shot by the navy and red in the 74th minute.
For the game, the No. 6-ranked Hilltoppers held a 14-2 advantage in shots, including a 7-0 advantage in shots on goal. After a first half of only five shots, the second half picked up with 11 shots between the two teams.
Taylor Sargent made a season-high five saves in 90 minutes in goal. The junior suffered her first loss as she fell to 6-1 on the season.
The Hillcats continue their two-game road trip at Dallas Baptist University on Saturday (Sept. 21) at 1 p.m. in Dallas, Texas. Live stats and video will be available for the contest.
