Butler and Hull Named GAC Soccer Players of the Week

ADA, OKLA.. – For the second-straight week, an East Central University soccer player has been named a Great American Conference Player of the Week, as sophomore Alyssa Butler was named the Defender of the Week and junior Chloe Hull was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.

The duo earned the honors after the Tigers (4-3-1, 1-0-1 GAC) drew a scoreless tie with defending GAC champions Southwestern Oklahoma State. ECU then picked up a 1-0 win against Northwestern Oklahoma State, placing the Tigers second in the league standings with Southwestern.

Hull earns the honor for the second-straight week for the Tigers after helping the team to two shutouts to open league action. The Moore, Okla., native has not allowed a goal for 200-consecutive minutes, dating back to Sept. 14. Hull stopped 11 shots against the Bulldogs and then added five saves against the Rangers.

Butler, was key ECU's shutout, by helping to limit the time of possession and shots on goal by the opposition. She helped the Tigers block 10 of Southwestern's shots and limit Northwestern to just five shots on goal.

ECU will play the final of six home matches, Thursday, Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. against Southern Nazarene. The Tigers will then play its first road Great American Conference match of the season, Saturday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m. at Oklahoma Baptist.

SNU is currently 2-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play after falling at Harding and Ouachita Baptist in the opening week of action. The Crimson Storm are scoring 1.38 goals per match and are allowing 2.75 goals against.

SNU has two players that have tallied more than one goal this season, with Meagan Chase and Brianna Evans both garnering three goals. Chase adds two assists to lead the team with eight points. Ashlynn Pritchett has played all but 6:46 of the 742 minutes in net for the Crimson Storm. She has allowed 22 goals and stopped 55 shots.

The teams have met on 15 previous occasions, with 10 of those happening during GAC play and seven taking place at Tiger Field. ECU trails, 4-10-1 overall, 3-7 in league matches and 3-4 when playing at home.

OBU is currently leading the conference with a 2-0 record and a 6-1 mark overall. In the opening GAC weekend, the Bison defeated Ouachita Baptist and Harding on the road. OBU is averaging 2.43 goals per game, while allowing just 1.29. The Bison have been keeping their opponents defense busy, recording 74 shots on goal for the year and allowing just 25.

OBU has seen eight players score at least one goal this season, with four garnering at least two. Hannah White and Ruth King lead the team with four goals each, with White adding an assist and King three assists. Emily Griffith has seen every minute in net for the Bison, allowing just nine goals and recording 16 saves.

This Saturday's game will be just the sixth meeting in the all-time series, with the series knotted at 2-2-1. When playing on the road the series stands at 0-1-1 for ECU.
