UAM Volleyball defeated on the road by #19 ATU

Russellville, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was taken down on the road by nationally ranked #19 Arkansas Tech by a final score of 3-0 Thursday evening.

Final set scores from the match were 16-25, 15-25, and 12-25 in favor of the Golden Suns.

UAM falls to 6-10 (1-4 GAC) overall this season.

#19 Arkansas Tech improves to 18-0 (5-0 GAC) this year.

Arkansas-Monticello battled early on with the #19 ranked team in the nation after kills from Maggie Pyles and Aubrey Harrison helped tie up the match at 7-7.

Arkansas Tech however generated a 7-1 run soon after, and complied another run of 7-2 to close out the first set by a score of 25-16.

The Golden Suns opened up the second set of play with a 5-1 run to gain the early advantage over UAM, and the Blossoms began to chip away at the ATU lead with kills from Pyles, Harrison, and Vanessa Pawlak.

ATU proved to be too much however late in the set to ultimately win it 25-15, and to take a 2-0 set lead as well.

The final set of this match saw Arkansas Tech take control of the third set with an early lead of 9-3, and never trail as ATU would go on to win it 25-12, and take the match 3-0 over Arkansas-Monticello.

Maggie Pyles led UAM on the offensive attack with 11 kills in the match. Pyles also added 10 digs to her overall stat-line as well.

Freshman Toryn Cox recorded 17 assists in the contest to lead the Blossoms.

Macy Mitchell led the defense of Arkansas-Monticello with 12 digs in the match.

UAM will next prepare to take on non-conference opponent Mississippi Valley State on the road in Itta Bena, Mississippi on Wednesday, October 4 with first serve slated for 7:00 p.m.
