Volleyball Starts Road Swing with Win

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Harding volleyball team won its first of a three match road swing Thursday after defeating Southern Arkansas 3-1 in Great American Conference action. The Lady Bisons improve to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in the GAC.

Southern Arkansas falls to 6-13 overall and 0- in the GAC.

FIRST SET

Trailing 22-20, Harding closed the first set on a 5-0 run on three kills. The Lady Bisons had 12 kills in the set and held Southern Arkansas to hitting .019.

SECOND SET

Harding jumped out to a 12-5 lead in the second set on seven kills. Southern Arkansas battled back and cut the lead to three 16-13. The Lady Bisons answered back with a 6-1 run to lead 22-14. Harding had back-to-back kills to win the set 25-18.

THIRD SET

Harding took a 6-3 lead in the third set before Southern Arkansas went on a 12-6 run to lead 15-12. The Lady Bisons pulled within one 18-17 but the Lady Muleriders went on a 5-0 run to lead 23-17. Southern Arkansas went on to win the set 25-19. The Lady Muleriders forced 11 Harding attack errors in the set.

FOURTH SET

With the fourth set tied at four, Harding went on a 5-1 run to lead 11-7. Southern Arkansas battled back but Harding held on to win the set 25-20. Harding hit .407 with 13 kills and forced the Lady Muleriders to 10 attack errors.

STATS

Harding

- Harding was led by Zoe Hardin who had 15 kills and hit a .407. She also added seven blocks.

- Rachel Heussner had 40 assists and 18 digs for the Lady Bisons

- Harding had 81 digs in the match. Taylor Lake added 18 digs and Katherine Cowart tied a season-high with 16 digs.

Southern Arkansas

- Alexia Southern led the Lady Muleriders with 12 kills.

- Southern Arkansas had 82 digs with four players having 10 or more digs.

- Whitney Brown led the Lady Muleriders with 22 digs.

Harding head coach Meredith Fear: "Road wins are never easy. We battled some inconsistencies tonight but were able to find the way to get the job done. The team gets a much needed weekend off then we start our play with Oklahoma teams."

UP NEXT

Harding will play its next two matches in Oklahoma. The Lady Bisons will face Southeastern Oklahoma Oct. 6 at 6 p.m., before travel to East Central Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10 a.m.
