Hillcats End Road Trip with 2-0 Loss at DBU

DALLAS – The Rogers State men's soccer team ended its four-game road trip with a 2-0 loss at Dallas Baptist University on Saturday at the Patriot Soccer Field.

After a scoreless first half, the host Patriots (6-3-1) totaled two goals to earn the 2-0 Heartland Conference victory. DBU's Jacob Garcia scored the game-winning tally in the 65th minute after entering the contest a few minutes earlier. The Patriots ended any chance for the Hillcats with a goal in the 83rd minute to increase the score to 2-0. Ethan Martinez scored the second tally for DBU.

In the opening period, the Hillcats seemed to control the play of the first 45 minutes. For the opening stanza, RSU held a slight 7-4 advantage in shots. Three of the attempts were on goal with DBU able to make three saves.

The Patriots doubled up the Hillcats in shots in the second half by a 6-3 margin. Four of the six shots were on goal. RSU posted only three second half shots.

Shots were evened for the game at 10-10. DBU finished with a slight 5-4 edge in shots on target.

Jake Simpson and Jordan Watson both registered a game-high three shots for the navy and red.

Senior Cody Gammill totaled three saves in 90 minutes in goal. He moved to 4-3-1 on the season.

Facing a tough four-game road trip, the Cats went 0-3-1, including two losses to top 25 opponents. The navy and red are 5-4-1 on the season and 2-2-1 in the Heartland Conference.

The Hillcats return home for three straight Heartland Conference contests at Soldier Field, where the Cats are 3-0 this season. The stretch starts with West Texas A&M on Thursday (Oct. 5) at 7 p.m. at Soldier Field. Follow the action on the Hillcat Network at http://www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
