Vehicle charge dropped against suspect in Missouri killings

October 6, 2017

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jackson County authorities have dropped a felony charge against a man suspected of killing two Missouri women who disappeared nearly a decade apart.

Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced Friday that the county will drop a knowingly burning a vehicle charge against Kylr Yust. The decision comes after Cass County authorities announced Thursday they were charging Yust with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 17-year-old Jessica Runions and 21-year-old Kara Kopetsky.

The burning charge was filed after Runions' vehicle was found in flames shortly after she disappeared in September 2016. Kopetsky disappeared in April 2007. Their remains were found near each other in April in a wooded area near Belton.

Yust was the last person seen with Runions before she went missing and he had dated Kopetsky.
