Streetcar supporters win election in Kansas City vote
October 8, 2017
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Voters have elected several supporters of expanding Kansas City's streetcars in a weekend election.
The Kansas City Star reports that a group of seven people who want to expand streetcars were the top finishers in the election although none of them won more than 2,000 votes because turnout was low.
Saturday's election is part of a process to build an expanded streetcar system that will connect downtown to an area near the University of Missouri-Kansas City's campus.
Next year, voters will be asked to approve sales and property taxes that would pay for the project.
