A table featuring gourmet cheeses and fruit is a popular place to visit during the KDH Jeans and Gems dinner and auction Saturday night. Serving themselves are (from left) Toni Pederson, Deb Helfrich and Carol Molz. You see others perusing the silent auction items and visiting.

Nearly 100 people nibbled on gourmet cheeses, enjoyed a smoked prime rib dinner and bid on neat donated items – all to support their local healthcare, the Kiowa District Hospital. The Friends of the Kiowa Hospital and Manor Foundation hosted their 4th Annual Jeans and Gems fundraiser Saturday night at Kiowa's Community Building. With sponsorships, the silent auction and the live auction, the evening grossed $19,500 for the foundation. Judy Schrock is the foundation's president. “It was a very successful evening – I think the best event we've had,” Schrock said. “Not only did we raise funds for our healthcare system, everyone seemed to have a great time together. The prime rib dinner was delicious. I've been told every day since that it was the best meal we've served. Our auctioneer Cliff McKinney (of Medicine Lodge) not only auctioned but he entertained.”
