Women's Golf Races Past the Field to Win GAC Preview
October 12, 2017
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Henderson State women's golf team, despite tougher conditions in the second round, posted a 323 on Tuesday to win the Great American Conference Preview by 15 strokes with a two-round score of 622.
The Reddies were led by Hanna Brauburger, who tied for second place overall by carding a 79 in the second round to finish the tournament 10-over-par. This is the second tournament in a row in which Brauburger has been Henderson's top individual finisher.
Taylor Reed, who entered the day in first place individually, wound up tied for fifth at 11-over-par after posting an 82 on Tuesday. Her first round score of 73 was the lowest individual round of the GAC Preview.
Sarah Wright and Taylor Loeb both finished in the Top-10 as well for Henderson. Each shot 81 in round two to close with scores of 12-over-par and 13-over-par, respectively, leaving Wright tied for seventh place and Loeb tied for ninth. Wright excelled on the longer par-5 holes, shooting 1-under-par on all par-5's in the event, while Loeb shot par on 26 holes during the 36-hole tournament, the most of any player in field. Luisa Gartmann rounded out the scoring five for the Reddies by shooting an 82 on the day to finish 19th overall.
Both Allison Davis and Christian Barrett, who competed as individuals, had strong showings during the two-day event. Davis finished tied for second overall with Brauburger at 10-over-par after posting a 77 on Tuesday, while Barrett, who shot 81 in the second round, wound up tied for 11th. Davis played the Par-3's better than any individual in the field, shooting even par on the shorter holes over the course of two days while also tying for most birdies at the event with six total.
All seven Reddies in action on Monday and Tuesday finished in the Top-20 overall as individuals.
The win is the second of the season already for the Reddies, who also took first place at the Northeastern State Women's Classic in mid-September. Henderson's record is now 45-8 through the season's first four tournaments.
The Reddies will be back in action on Oct. 23-24 when they host the HSU Fall Invitational at the Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
