Oklahoma Territory’s Congressmen – Part 2

As we saw last week, David Archibald Harvey served as the first non-voting delegate to Congress from Oklahoma Territory.

Archibald represented the new territory in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1890 to 1893. In 1892 he introduced a bill that would have made Oklahoma a state but the measure died in committee.

Oklahoma would have to wait 15 more years before Congress was willing to grant it statehood – and then only after merging it with Indian Territory.

Harvey lost his bid to continue representing Oklahoma in the 1892 Republican primary. In the meantime, he had moved to the town...
