Police respond to recent accidents

The Alva Police Department responded to several accidents in recent weeks. On Sept. 21 at 7:45 a.m. there was a two-vehicle collision on College Boulevard north of Linden. Steven Glenn Schlarb, 58, of Alva was driving a 1997 Chevrolet north on College in the inside lane. Lynell Nicole Johnston, 26, of Alva was driving behind Schlarb in a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. Schlarb was preparing to turn left into a private drive, and Johnston struck the rear of his vehicle. According to the report by Officer William Shahan, Johnston said she was distracted by trying to fix the window seal on the driver’s door so she could roll up the window.

A driver struck a parked vehicle on Sept. 23 at 11:11 p.m. at 900 Barnes in Alva. Winn Wade, 52, of Alva was driving a 2007 Mercury north on Ninth Street. He told Officer John Caviness that a car pulled out and he swerved to miss it, striking a parked 2015 Dodge Durango owned by Keri Pannell, 36, of Alva. Pannell said she was inside a residence in the area when she heard a loud noise and went outside to investigate. The Wade vehicle sustained substantial damage to the front and had to be removed by a wrecker. It struck the rear of the Pannell vehicle.

On Sept. 24 at 10:15 p.m. Assistant Police Chief Patrick Hawley investigated a collision on College Boulevard near Share Drive. Ethen Camron Evans, 18, of Imperial, Texas, was driving a 2011 Ford F150 southbound on College in the inside lane. Chad Christopher Simon, 41, of Alva was driving a 2016 GMC Yukon northbound in the outside lane. Evans made a left turn into the parking lot of a convenience store but did not see Simon’s vehicle. The front bumper of Evans’ pickup struck the front end of Simon’s vehicle. Simon was taken to the Share Medical ER by private vehicle.

Two vehicles collided on Sept. 26 at 3:50 p.m. on Church Street west of Noble Street. Joshua Orin Hansel, 37, of Alva was driving a 1999 Chevrolet S14 westbound on Church. Shirley Hook, 43, of Alva was backing a 2017 Buick from a private drive. Hook backed into Hansel’s vehicle. Officer William Shahan investigated.

Another backing accident occurred on Sept. 27 1:28 p.m. at 513 Barnes. Dianna Lea Meade, 48, of Waynoka was parked in front of Holder Drug. As she backed from the angled parking, her 2006 Ford struck a 2017 Chrysler parked adjacent to her vehicle. Meade’s vehicle struck the other vehicle in front of the driver’s side rear wheel well, scratching and transferring paint to the rear of the Chrysler, which is owned by Thelma Rae Crouch, 79, of Alva. Officer Sean Farris investigated.

On Sept. 29 at 10:59 p.m. a collision was reported at 907 Poplar in Alva. Gene Jackson, 78, of Alva reported his 2014 Chevrolet was parked and unoccupied when it was struck by another vehicle that left the scene. While Officer John Caviness was speaking with Jackson, they were approached by Tamarick Marquel Courtney, 22, of Alva. Courtney said he had struck Jackson’s vehicle and briefly left before returning. He led Caviness to the 1100 block of Young Street and showed him a 2009 Ford Mustang that had sustained minor front end damage. Courtney said he did not have a driver’s license. He was given a citation.

Police received a report of a vehicle colliding with a building on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 9:45 p.m. at America’s Best Value Inn. According to Officer Brian File’s report, Scott Alan Marteney, 47, of Alva was driving the 2015 Toyota Tundra that struck the building. Marteney was arrested for driving under the influence.

There was a two-vehicle collision on Oklahoma Boulevard at Logan Street on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at 8:23 a.m. Gay Lynn Nagel, 59, of Greeley, Colorado, was driving a 2013 Honda Civic westbound in the outside lane of Oklahoma Boulevard. She slowed to make a right turn on Logan but did not use a signal to indicate the turn. Gregory Pinegar, 53, of Alva was following in a 2017 Ford F350, could not stop in time striking the rear fender of the Honda. Nagel’s vehicle was disabled and had to be removed from the scene by a wrecker. Officer Sean Farris investigated.
