Graveside services for Dorothy May (Chance) Meier will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the Alva Municipal Cemetery with Rev. Bob Brown officiating. Interment is under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Alva.

Dorothy May (Chance) Meier, daughter of the late Laurence and Eva Mae (Whitcomb) Chance, was born June 16, 1930, in Woodward, Oklahoma, and passed away October 24, 2017, at Alva, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 8 days. Dorothy's mother passed away at childbirth, so she was raised by her grandmother, Mary Rosa Mae Williams.

Dorothy graduated from Woodward High School. On June 23, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ralph Charles Meier at Woodward. She was an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone for many years. She lived in Sulphur and Woodward before moving to Alva 45 years ago.

Dorothy was a member of the Woodward United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Meier and her grandmother, Mary Rosa.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Steven Meier of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Amy Mayes and husband, Kenny, of Alva; two grandchildren, Christen Meier and wife Kelsey of Oklahoma City, and Kaylie Mayes of Alva; three great-grandchildren, Emma, Austin and Lacey Meier all of Oklahoma City; her former daughter-in-law, Mary Meier; other relatives and friends.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Diabetes research.
