Woods County commissioners amend 2018 holiday schedule

For the first time in recent memory, the Woods County commissioners opened their meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. The pledge was led by Alva fifth grader Avery McMurphy, center. From left, Shelley Reed, Randy McMurphy, John Smiley, Avery McMurphy and David Hamil.

About a month ago, the Woods County commissioners approved the annual list of holiday closures for the county. Turns out, the closures must match those of the State of Oklahoma. The change affects only the Christmas 2018 holiday, which is on Tuesday. Previously, the commissioners approved Wednesday also as a day off.

Now, it has been changed to the Monday before the Tuesday Christmas date.

The monthly reports were approved: Assessor collections: $1,178.50 County Clerk Office collections: $8,778.23

Court Clerk Office balance: $271,572.78

Election Board balance: $5,432.43
