Lady Bulldogs Fall to Sooners in Exhibition Play

November 9, 2017

NORMAN, Okla. – SWOSU Women's Basketball fell to the No. 22/21 ranked Oklahoma Sooners 109-65 on Tuesday night inside the Lloyd Noble Center in its first and only exhibition game of the season.

SWOSU's offense found themselves with open shots in the first half, but just couldn't knock them down after shooting just 1-for-14 from the three point line and 31.3% from the field overall through the game's first 10 minutes. Hailey Tucker found success in the lane, scoring 11 points through two quarters and shot a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line. Tucker ended the first half as the only Lady Bulldog with multiple scores as SWOSU went into the half trailing 40-24.

Out of the halftime locker room the Lady Dawgs came out with high intensity, playing the Sooners nearly even in the third quarter. OU would get a layup as time expired to just notch SWOSU 21-19 in scoring for the quarter.

Overall in the second half, Tyra Aska got herself into double digit scoring after putting up eight points in the third quarter while Tucker continued to add on to her night, surpassing the 20-point threshold with a perfect 10-of-10 mark from the charity stripe.

11 different Bulldogs scored baskets in the game, including four freshman who each earned their first collegiate points in a SWOSU uniform. Tucker ended with 22 points, followed by Aska with 10. Bethany Franks added seven points while also grabbing a team best six rebounds on the night.

The Dawgs were held to just 29% from the field in the game, including just 3-of-26 (11.5%) from beyond the arc. SWOSU was lights out at the free throw line all game, shooting 22-for-25 at the foul line, finishing right at 88%.

The Lady Bulldogs will open up the regular season on Friday (Nov. 10) at the GAC/MIAA Crossover in Joplin, Missouri. SWOSU will take on Emporia State on Friday and Missouri Southern State on Saturday to kick off the 2017-18 schedule.
