DONALD SILER

November 15, 2017

Donald Siler was born July 18, 1929, to Orval and Luella Siler in Cherokee, Oklahoma, and passed Friday evening, November 10, 2017, at the age of 88 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with his wife of 64 years by his side. Donald leaves behind a loving family including his aforementioned wife, Peggy Siler; two children: Lori Richcreek and husband David, and Steven Siler and wife Pamela; one brother: Jimmie Siler and wife Ann; five grandchildren: Joseph Heldmann III, Bradley Heldmann, Katherine Heldmann, Kayla Siler Geres and Dylan Siler; one great-grandchild: Joseph Heldmann IV and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was a veteran, serving in the Korean War and receiving commendation for his service. He liked to say that when he returned from the war he used the $4,000 he received from Uncle Sam to get an education. Donald earned two bachelors degrees, and was in the final graduating class of Oklahoma A&M before that university become Oklahoma State. He was a member of the TIE academic fraternity.

Upon graduation, he went to work for Cummins Diesel in Columbus, Indiana, for a short period before being hired away by John Deere, making homes from Dallas to Abilene, Texas, the Quad Cities in Illinois at Deere Administration Center and John Deere Merchandising, where he completed 30 years of loyal service before retiring in 1985. He and Peggy retired back to Cherokee and relocated to Tulsa in 2013.

Donald remained active after retirement; however, he farmed, took care of his land with an emphasis on agricultural conservation and spent time with his family. Donald Siler was loving, honest, hardworking and faithful. He was active in the Disciples of Christ Church that he attended, and wanted more than anything for his children to have a vibrant relationship with God. He lived a full life and had many hobbies, but his priority was always his family, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Private family service. Fitzgerald Southwood Colonial Chapel, 918-291-3500. Online condolences may be made at http://www.fitzgeraldsouthwoodchapel.com.
