In the early 1970s, character actor John Cazale became well known to movie audiences for playing Fredo Corleone in both “The Godfather” and “The Godfather: Part II.” Both films received Academy Awards for “best picture” (in 1972 and 1974, respectively).

Before his untimely death in 1978, Cazale acted in three more feature-length movies, and all three earned Academy Award nominations for “best picture” with one of them (“The Deer Hunter”) winning the coveted Oscar.
