Late-second-half push not enough for UAM Hoops against Storm

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was defeated by GAC opponent Southeastern Oklahoma State Thursday night by a final score of 68-62.

NOTABLES

UAM falls to 5-2 (1-2 GAC) overall this year.

SOSU jumps to 3-4 (2-1 GAC) this season.

UAM STATS

Derylton Hill: 18 points, 10 rebounds

Cobe Goosby: 14 points, 5 rebounds

Tyrin Jones: 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds

FIRST HALF

This conference match-up was closely contested throughout the opening half, as the score was all knotted up at 16-16 midway through the period. A made three-pointer from Karim Mawuenyega was the equalizer with just over 12 minutes left in this half.

Southeastern began to generate small runs in the remaining time of the first half, to jump ahead and claim a halftime lead of 34-31 over the Weevils.

Derylton Hill provided eight points in the half, and Goosby added seven of his own as these two seniors guided the UAM offense to begin this game.


SECOND HALF

The Savage Storm came out firing in the second half, with 14:42 remaining in the game, and held its' biggest lead of the night at 49-37 after a made three-pointer.

UAM quickly cut that lead in half with made shots from Keelin Jackson, and Goosby, to put the away advantage at just 50-44 midway through the half.

Southeastern would not surrender the lead for the remainder of this contest, holding onto its lead, and ultimately taking the victory at 68-62 over the Weevils.

Arkansas-Monticello unfortunately committed 12 second half turnovers, which SOSU took advantage of, in sealing the win off over UAM.

UAM will hit the court next on Saturday, December 2 as the Weevils face East Central in a GAC match-up in Monticello, Arkansas with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
