Bison Swim Teams Wrap Up Stay in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist wrapped up its stay in the University of Texas Invitational with more NCAA Division II top times Saturday.

Celina Marquez had the No. 3 time in the 200 backstroke at 2:00.75 while Tamlyn Price posted the No. 5 time at 2:01.50 in prelims.

David Lambert swam the 100 free in 43.60 for the No. 3 time in a prelim race.

In the men's 200 back, Fernando Morillas Moras had the No. 7 time in 1:47.97 in prelims.

Kristijan Stunkovic had a top 10 time in the 200 butterfly at 1:49.69, but has a better time on record this season. Tristan Villa joined Stunkovic in the top 10 with a No. 6 time of 1:49.74.

The highlight of the meet came on Thursday when Lambert beat two Olympic gold medalist and an Olympic finalist in the 50 freestyle with a NCAA Division II record of 19.17.

OBU had one other top 10 finish Thursday with Andre Del Rio, Lambert, Chad Brandon and Fernando Morillas Ramos taking 10th in the 200 free relay at 1:18.81.


The men's 400 medley relay improved on their national No. 4 time with Felipe Zapata Ramirez, Morillas, Del Rio and Lambert posting a 3:17.

The women's 400 medley relay team of Suzanne Afchain, Juliana Cifuentes, Celina Marquez and Miriam Avila improved their national No. 5 time with a 3:48.08.

Friday, Morillas Ramos posted the NCAA Division II No. 2 time in the 100 breaststroke at 54.36.

Stunkovic swam the No. 10 time in the 400 individual medley at 3:58.15.

For the Lady Bison Marquez had a preliminary time in the 100 backstroke of 55.62 to take the No. 6 spot in the nation and Suzanne Afchain had a 55.97 in the finals for the No. 10 time in that event.


In a time trial Friday, Price had the No. 2 time this season in the 100 backstroke at 54.93 and Marquez had the No. 4 time at 55.48.

OBU returns to action Jan. 6 with a duel at Florida Tech.
