December 3, 2017

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – Kevin Buckingham turned in a game-high 22 points to lead Southeastern past Southern Arkansas, 72-63 on Saturday afternoon in Magnolia, Ark.

The win is the second-straight and moves the Savage Storm to 4-4 overall on the year and 3-1 in Great American Conference play.

Buckingham went 8-of-14 from the floor and drained three three pointers to lead all scorers, while Markell Henderson added 14 points and Ryan Scott-McGuire chipped in 12 off the bench on the strength of a 10-for-10 effort at the free throw line.

Jett Jobe and Adam Dwosky were just shy of double figures with nine apiece, while Jobe also dished out a game-high four assists.

Buckingham also led the Storm on the glass with eight rebounds, while Markell Henderson was next in line with five.

A Jobe three put SE on the board first to open the game and the Storm would eventually use a 7-0 run capped by a Buckingham jumper to take a 13-7 lead.

Southeastern would maintain the lead for the remainder of the first half, leading by as many as eight before taking a 31-28 lead into the halftime break.

The Storm would maintain its lead until an 11-2 SAU run put SE in a 49-44 hole.

SAU still held a five-point lead with seven minutes to play, but the Storm rallied and knotted the score on a pair of Scott-McGuire free throws and regained the lead for good at 66-63 on a Buckingham three with 1:38 to play.

Southeastern would go 6-of-6 in the final minute at the free throw line to pull away for the 72-63 victory.
