December 3, 2017
ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State sophomore linebacker Maurice Wright Jr. has been named to the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association 2017 All-Super Region 3 Football Second Team.
The Luther, Oklahoma, native adds the honor to his All-Great American Conference First Team selection from earlier this month after captaining a much-improved Ranger defense throughout the year. Wright's accolades come after leading the GAC in tackles with 104 despite missing three games due to injury.
Wright finished second in all of Division II football with an average of 13.0 tackles per game and also recorded the most tackles in a single game across the country with 22 back on Oct. 14 against Harding. The 6'1 defensive standout also made his presence felt in the opponent's backfield, finishing third in the conference with 14.0 total tackles for loss.
"Maurice was a workhorse for us all season on the field and I couldn't be more excited for him to receive this honor," head football coach Matt Walter said. "His work ethic in all aspects of the game is incredible and his heart and tenacity on the field allows him to be a constant threat on the defensive side of the ball."
Twenty-four total players from the GAC found their name on the list, with Southern Arkansas leading the way with five total selections. Wright's selection onto the 2017 list makes it three years in a row that a member of the Ranger football team has been named as an All-Region player as former standout Joby St. Fleur made the list in 2015 and 2016.
