Morbid ornament: Dead vultures hung to scare off live ones

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) — Amid the Christmas lights and garlands, one South Carolina neighborhood features more unusual decorations in its trees — vulture carcasses.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports the neighborhood homeowners group for Brickyard Plantation in Mount Pleasant is in the midst of its second round of dangling three carcasses by their legs, part of a U.S. Department of Agriculture ploy to scare off live vultures.

In Brickyard Plantation, vultures have been tearing up exposed rubber caulking. The director of the USDA office in Columbia, Noel Myers, says vulture complaint...
