TULSA, Okla. (AP) — An Oklahoma man has been sentenced to 44 months in prison for placing two pipe bombs in a relative's vehicle.

The Tulsa World reports that 23-year-old Christopher Nichols was sentenced Thursday in Tulsa federal court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to make and possess destructive devices.

Christopher Nichols and his 53-year-old father, Berry Nichols, were indicted in July in connection to pipe bombs found in a female relative's vehicle outside the Sapulpa courthouse in May. Police arrested the pair after surveillance video showed Christopher Nichols entering the woman's vehicle.

Christopher Nichols told authorities it was only meant to scare the woman. He'll serve two years of supervised release after the prison term.

Court records say Berry Nichols's case is pending the results of a competency evaluation.
