Tigers can't finish at home against CBC
December 10, 2017
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Ouachita Tigers' men's basketball team fell to a pesky Central Baptist College Mustang team Thursday evening by a final score of 80-71.
The Tigers led the game by one point at halftime and kept the game close throughout. A Matt Stanley layup with 3:15 remaining cut Central Baptist's lead to two points, but the Tigers could not finish the game from there as Central Baptist scored eight unanswered points to rocket themselves to a nine-point victory.
A big part of Central Baptist's big second-half performance was solid play from Tony Brewster. Brewster scored 21 total points in the game, but 19 of them came in the second half. Brewster was able to ice the game late, making 12 of 12 free throws.
The Tigers' defeat came in spite of a solid, double-digit performance from three key players. Junior guard Matthew Ward scored 21 points in the game, including 18 from behind the arc, while freshmen forwards Matthew Stanley and Grant Jones scored 16 and 15 points respectively. Also coming in big for the Tigers was Jonatavis Willis. Willis scored nine points and had four assists and three steals.
The Tigers will try to rebound next weekend at the UA-Fort Smith Classic. They will not resume conference play on January 4th.
