Strong First Half Propels Hillcats to 88-72 Win over Cameron

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State men's basketball team totaled 57 first-half points to build a 57-32 advantage en route to a 88-72 victory over Cameron on Tuesday (Dec. 19) afternoon for Claremont Elementary School Day at the Claremore Expo Center.

The Hillcats knocked down 10 3-pointer in the first half, shooting 62.5 percent (10-16) on triples, to pull out to the halftime 25-point margin. In the first half, the navy and red shot 55.6 percent (20-36) from the field.

RSU pushed a slight 16-14 edge to a 41-16 score with a 25-2 run in six minutes that included six 3-pointers. Chase Littlejohnstarted the spurt with a triple, and Saint Hilaire hit from deep for a 22-14 score with 12 minutes remaining before halftime. After Littlejohn hit again, Brewster Peacock got in on the 3-point shooting display with two 3s, including one to cap the run at 41-16 with 7:38 left before the halftime break. Tavian Davis splashed in a 3 between the two Peacock triples.

Littlejohn hit one more 3-pointer right before the half for the 57-32 score after 20 minutes.

To start the second half, RSU scored two straight baskets to build its largest lead of the contest at 61-32 at the 18:56 mark.

The margin was still 22 points at 78-52 with five minutes remaining after a Baron Smith Jr. layup. The Aggies, however, did make a little run to end the game and cut the margin to 13 at 82-69 with a layup by Cole Lehr with 2:17 left. The Cats made free throws at the end, and Brian Harness hit a late 3-pointer for the final 88-72 margin.

Smith scored a game-high 19 points, going 7-for-7 shooting from the free throw line. Peacock poured in 15 points, and Hilaire tallied 11 points off the bench. Reserve forwards Gabriel Ferreira and Don Leak combined to pull down 17 rebounds. Ferreira had a game-high nine boards, and Leak posted eight rebounds.

RSU finished shooting 47 percent (31-66) from the field and 48 percent (12-25) from 3.

The Cats held Cameron to 32.1 percent (9-28) shooting in the first half, and 39.4 percent (26-66) in the game. Tyus Momoh totaled 19 points, and Zach Dumas added 14 points.
