God's goodness at Christmas

December 22, 2017

Christmas has arrived and are you ready for it to come? Yes, you may have you last-minute presents to buy, getting all the food for the family and sending cards. Yet in the midst of all the wonderful blessings, do you feel that you may be missing out on something?

We see many expressions of love at Christmas and yes, we see lack of expressions of love. We stop and ask ourselves the hard question, “Why is everyone doing all these wonderful deeds of kindness?” In fact, they are going overboard in their effort to bless and encourage others.

Yet we sense that maybe there is something more to Christmas than meets the eye. We want to bless others and we want others to bless us. Still there seems to be some emptiness in all the hustle and bustle. We want the gifts that will touch a person and bless them all year long.

The story of the angel coming to the shepherds gets to the heart of Christmas and goodness of God. The angel said to the shepherds, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10).

The heart of Christmas comes because we know God has sent His Son into the world to save us from our sins. Because of Christ’s coming to you and me, we want to celebrate the wonderful goodness of God with many expressions of love. In the process we also want to put the Christ Child in each person’s arms to make Christmas come alive to the world because of God’s goodness.
