2017 Review: School year ends and summer begins

The Alva Fire Department works to free MaKale Hamil from a 2005 GMC pickup following a wreck west of Alva as Alva EMS personnel check on her. MaKale and her sister MaKenzi were flown to OU Medical in Oklahoma City.

The second quarter of 2017 was filled with end of school activities, wheat harvest, the Nescatunga Arts Festival, and the beginning of summer activities.

April

April began with coverage of the March 31 retirement reception for BJCC Warden Janice Melton. During the Department of Corrections board meeting held that morning, Dr. Chuck Gasaway was recognized as the ODOC Volunteer of the Year.

The Alva Friends of the Library raised more than $7,000 during the annual Chocolate Fantasy fundraiser at the Alva Public Library.

Mayor Kelly Parker discussed the future of Alva city government and services....
