Lewis brings fire art to Alva

The flicker of a candle, the glow of a fireplace, the bright flames of a bonfire bring light, warmth and beauty. Uncontrolled fire has the opposite effect, leaving destruction and damage in its path.

Fire and its aftermath inspire artist Duron Lewis to creativity. The Enid resident has learned to control the flames, to use smoke and soot to develop works of art.

"You can create so much with soot," Lewis told Channel 4's Galen Culver in a 2015 interview. "It kind of runs like a river. When you light the flame and see the soot, it just goes where it wants to go."
