2017 Review: Summer leads into a very busy fall

From the Fourth of July to the start of school and a September loaded with activities, the third quarter of the year brought plenty to do and see in Alva.

The month of June ended with a storm bringing damaging winds. The Mesonet recorded a peak of 56 mph for Alva. A trampoline was wrapped around an electric highline pole on Oklahoma Boulevard and numerous tree limbs split and toppled, blocking roadways and causing more damage.

Superintendent Steve Parkhurst told the Alva Board of Education a portable classroom would be set up to handle the increased class load in the fall when pre-K class...
