Lucky Number Seven: Reddies Down Harding 79-64, Extend GAC Winning Streak to Seven Games

January 19, 2018

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Pink Jones poured in a career-high 29 points and Hailey Estes notched her fourth double-double in five games, as Henderson State defeated Harding 79-64 on Thursday evening to stretch its program-record Great American Conference winning streak to seven games.

After shooting better than 50 percent in the first half, the Reddies (11-4, 7-2) led by seven at the break and through the first five minutes of the third quarter, that lead remained unchanged. Over the final five minutes of the period, though, Henderson went on a huge run, out-scoring the Lady Bisons 18-9, behind 10 points and two 3-pointers from Haleigh Henson, to take control and stretch its lead out to 61-45 heading into the fourth.

Henderson extended the lead to as many as 21 points in the final period after starting it with a 5-0 spurt. Harding (6-12, 2-8) refused to go away, at one point cutting the lead down to 13 with 3:48 to play, but it would come no closer, as Jones answered the run with four quick points of her own to slam the door and help the Reddies race away for the win over the defending conference champions.

Jones was simply unstoppable for the Reddies all evening, finishing with a career-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the floor. Thursday marks the third time in the past five games that Jones has notched a new career-high in points. Estes continued her work on both ends of the court for Henderson, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double in the last five outings. Henson had a magnificent third quarter, and scored 10 of her 12 points during the Reddies' big game-breaking run. Torrie Thompson was the final double-digit scorer for Henderson and did a bit of everything, finishing with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

As a team, the Reddies shot over 48 percent from the floor and held the Lady Bisons to just 37.5 percent shooting for the game. Henderson also out-rebounded a much bigger Harding team 42-35 and out-scored them in the paint 40-28. The win makes it 10 of the last 11 for the Reddies and stretches HSU's program-record GAC winning streak to seven games, the second-longest streak in the conference this season by any team.

The Reddies' next game is Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. against Southern Arkansas in the Duke Wells Center.
