Muleriders Weather Storm

MAGNOLIA, Ark. — Southern Nazarene shot just 28.4 percent from the field, and turned the ball over 20 times in a 76-53 loss to Southern Arkansas on Saturday.

The Crimson Storm (7-10, 5-8 GAC) went 8-for-26 from three-point range, while the Muleriders (5-14, 4-9 GAC) made 4-of-10 from downtown. SAU shot 44.6 percent from the floor, and only turned the ball over seven times. They outscored the Storm 40-14 in the paint, and scored 17 points off of the 20 turnovers from SNU.

Abby Niehues led the way for Southern Nazarene as she scored 12 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and blocked two shots. Sidney Carolina scored 10 points and added seven rebounds, while Alexus Jones scored six points, dished out six assists, and grabbed seven rebounds. Julia Schwake chipped in nine points off the Storm bench.

Both offenses were in full swing early, as Southern Arkansas took an 18-15 lead into the second quarter, and that's when the Muleriders began to take control. They held SNU to just seven points in the second quarter, as the Storm shot just 22 percent and faced a 35-22 deficit heading into halftime.


SAU shot 47.5 percent from the field in the second half, as they tallied 21 points in the third quarter. SNU also scored 21 points in the period, and faced a 56-43 deficit to start the fourth.

The Muleriders went 50 percent from the floor in the fourth, as were able to extend their lead to 25 at one point in the period. The Storm shot just 4-for-20 from the field in the quarter, and weren't able to put any pressure on SAU coming down the stretch.
