Reddies Rally But Fall in Extra-Innings

Henderson State forced extra-innings scoring six runs in the bottom of the ninth, but Tarleton State scored a pair of runs in the 10th-inning to beat the Reddies 11-9, Friday at the Houston Winter Invitational at Minute Maid Park.

Trailing 9-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, Henderson put together three hits in the inning to score two runs with Brandon Pollock and Joe Myers each having singles, and Dylan McCain a run-scoring double to make the score 9-3.

The Reddies then put together a six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth benefitting from five walks and two hit batters.

Nolan Ryan led off the inning being hit by a pitch followed by a single by Caleb Carr. Walks delivered to Jackson Martin, Brandon Pollock and Joe Myers would plate the first two runs of the inning.

Jordan Harris was then hit by a pitch to make the score 9-6 with bases still loaded. McCain scored another run when he received on a base on balls to put the tying run on second. Taylor Langston then grounded out to second with Joe Myers scoring to make it a 9-8 game with two outs and runners on second and third.


Henderson tied the score when Nolan Ryan's grounder was misplayed allowing Harris to score. The Reddies had the winning run 90-feet away, but Martin grounded out to first to end the inning.

Tarleton put together three hits in the 10th with doubles by Stacy Heintz and Blake Adams being the big hits. Henderson would go down in order in the bottom half of the inning to end the game.

The Texans got on the board first with a solo home run by Dylan Lemons in the top half of the second.


The Reddies answered in the bottom half of the inning as Langston received a one-out walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ryan then drove a single up the middle to tie the score at 1-1.

TSU built a 9-1 lead scoring a pair of runs in the fifth-inning, one in the sixth, four in the seventh and another in the eighth.

Meanwhile, the Reddies managed just two hits through the first seven frames before finishing the game with six safeties.

Ryan and Harris collected a pair of RBI, while McCain had the lone extra-base hit for Henderson.

Bryant Haralson started on the mound for the Reddies and began the day striking out the side in the first-inning. The senior from Atkins pitched 6 1/3 innings and fanned seven batters, allowing seven runs on nine hits.

Henderson used five total pitchers in the game with Langston pitching the final inning, giving up two runs on three hits and was tabbed with the loss.

The Reddies next take on St. Mary's on Saturday with the first-pitch set for 6 p.m. at Minute Maid Park.
