Navy travels spark artistic talent

Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez is the current NWOSU Artist in Residence. She displayed some of her work at the First Friday Art Walk at Graceful Arts Gallery.

Documenting her travel to other countries sparked an interest leading to art degrees for Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez. The travel was courtesy of the U.S. Navy. Ramirez enlisted a year out of high school and was rewarded with six deployments in four and one-half years to several different countries.

Photographs of those diverse places were like "pinching myself," she said. "It was like a stamp that I had been there."
