Oklahoma Profile: Angie Debo – Part 1

Angie Debo, who lived from 1890 to 1988, was a leading historian of the American West at a time when most historians were men. And she became infamous among those male historians for writing about American Indians in a positive manner.

To Debo, Native Americans were people who had been mistreated by the U.S. government and they were not the bloodthirsty savages many male historians portrayed them to be.
