In the U.S. we celebrate Presidents' Day on the third Monday in February, but why? Washington's Birthday. Established in 1885, Presidents' Day is in recognition of President George Washington's birthday. It's traditionally celebrated on Feb. 22 to mark Washington's actual birthday.
The holiday became popularly known as Presidents' Day after it became part of 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers.
