Joyland property burning in south Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — A fire has started on the grounds of the former Joyland Amusement Park in Wichita.

The Wichita Eagle reports that the fire started Tuesday afternoon and consumed both grass and a building on the back of the property that apparently was used for storage. A Sedgwick County emergency dispatch supervisor says numerous motorists driving by on Interstate 135 called 911 to report the fire.

Smoke rose into the sky amid the evening commute, and the Kansas Highway Patrol was alerted to provide traffic control as necessary.
