Cherokee FCCLA competes in STAR events

Eleven members of the Cherokee High School FCCLA Chapter traveled to Woodward on Feb. 8 to compete in the FCCLA North Region STAR Events. STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are competitive events in which members are recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:

• Cooperative – teams work to accomplish specific goals

• Individualized – an individual member works alone to accomplish specific goals

• Competitive – individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria.

STAR Events are grouped into Foundational, Leadership, Career Preparation and Online events.

Competing in events from Cherokee were:

• Cake Decorating (6-8) – Raylen Weve, 1st

• Cake Decorating (11-12) – Frances Mustard, 2nd

• Career Investigation Junior Division – Ruston James, 1st

• Career Investigation Senior Division – Taylor Miller, 4th

• Children's Literature (6-8) – Gracie Leslie, 1st

• Children's Literature (9-10) – Moriah Leslie, 1st

• Children's Literature (11-12) – Shelby Porter, 1st

• Illustrated Talk Senior Division – Angel Hernandez, 1st

• New Member Facts (9-10) – Gaby Solis, 2nd

• Teach and Train Senior Division – Raegan Hester, 3rd

• WR – Job Interview (9-10) – Madison Wheeler, 1st

The seven first-place winners advance to the state competition, which will be held in Stillwater and Oklahoma City on April 3–5.
