City may soon accept credit, debit cards

Customers may soon be able to pay their Alva utility bills, traffic tickets, permit fees and other city charges by credit or debit card. City Business Manager Joe Don Dunham told the city council Tuesday a solution by PayStar is being evaluated. It would cost the city nothing. Customers would be able to pay either in person at City Hall or online.

Of course, this payment service is not completely free. Customers will be charged a convenience fee of $2.50 on bills up to $100 then 3.5 percent for all bills over $100. Funds will be deposited in the city’s checking account within 48 hours.
