Hillcats Win, 8-3, to Sweep 3-Game Series at Drury

OZARK, Mo. – The Rogers State baseball team took game three, 8-3, on Monday (Feb. 26) to sweep a three-game series at Drury at US Baseball Park. RSU earned the three-game sweep after two victories in a doubleheader yesterday by scores of 14-5 and 4-2. With the three wins, RSU moved to 7-2 on the season.

The navy and red tallied the first four runs and after one Panther score added four more runs to pull out to a commanding 8-1 lead. DU added two late runs in the ninth for the final 8-3 score.

The Hillcats jumped on the Panthers early in the first inning as Blake Chiaramonte drove in two runs with a double down the line. RSU added two more runs in the fourth for a 4-0 edge.

After an infield single scored one run for DU in the sixth, Zack Mann doubled to left for a 5-1 score, and Sam Casinelli increased the margin to 7-1 with a double down the left field line to plate two runs in the eighth inning. Another RSU run scored in the eighth on an error by the Panthers.

DU plated two runs on a single in the ninth inning for the 8-3 final score.

Tim Luce earned the win, pitching 6.0 innings and allowing only three hits and one unearned run. He totaled five strikeouts. The senior moved to 2-1 on the season.

The Cats totaled 13 hits with Chiaramonte going 2-for-5 with two RBI. Mann, Derek Brumble and Christopher Ford each also registered two hits in the win.

The Hillcats go back to US Baseball Park for four games this weekend against Winona State and Sioux Falls. RSU starts the weekend on Friday (March 2) with a 2:30 p.m. contest against Winona State and ends the day with a 6 p.m. game against Sioux Falls. Live stats will be available.
