February 25, 2018

Henderson State could not overcome a six-run deficit as Oklahoma Baptist beat the Reddies 6-3, Monday at Clyde Berry Field in Arkadelphia, Ark.

The Bison won the three game series after splitting on Sunday with the Reddies, improving to 10-3 overall and 5-1 in Great American Conference play. Henderson fell to 7-6 on the year and 4-2 in league play.

Oklahoma Baptist scored three runs in the opening inning with the big hit being a double by Juan Gonzalez.

The Bison tacked on a run in the fourth thanks to a solo home run by Garrett McKee, and two more in the fifth with the help of a Kaden Betsch double to take a 6-0 lead.

The Reddies struck for three runs in the eighth-inning as Bryson Haskins led things off being hit by a pitch. Brandon Pollock followed with a single then Zack Gray delivered his first home run of the year, a blast to right field to cut the deficit in half.

Henderson, however, was unable to plate another run as Bison relief pitcher Thomas Shroder finished the game not allowing another hit and striking out two batters after giving up the three runs to begin the eighth.

Daniel Sprinkle entered the game in the fifth-inning relieving Reddie starter Kris Priddy. Sprinkle went the final 4.2 innings without allowing a run while striking out five batters.

Henderson had six hits for the game with Gary leading the way going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in.

The Reddies will take on Ouachita Baptist in a non-conference midweek game on Tuesday at Rab Rodgers Field with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.
