Alfalfa Commissioners extend burn ban 1 week

February 28, 2018

The Alfalfa County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting Monday morning. All commissioners were present, as well as Nancy Lambert, Laneta Unruh and Shana Smallwood-Buchanan. After the call to order, Nancy Lambert gave the invocation, then the flag was saluted.

The commissioners approved the minutes from the previous meeting, payroll warrants, the M & O warrants for payment, and the blanket purchase orders. Then road crossing permits were approved.

Discussion of extending the Alfalfa County burn ban for another seven days was followed by approval. After the seven-day extension, the commissioners will discuss the ban again to decide if it should continue. Remember: under the ban, residents of Alfalfa County cannot set fire to grasslands or crops, build a bonfire/campfire, burn trash, or set off fireworks. Exceptions to the ban include using LPG or natural gas outside grill, and welding, cutting or torching, as long as all the above are done on a non-flammable surface, away from flammable vegetation. Welding, cutting or torching is also only allowed if the wind speeds are less than 20 mph, and if there is a fire watchman appointed (other than the welder), with pressurized water or a fire extinguisher at the ready.

After a motion to adjourn, the meeting closed.
