No. 12 Lady Muleriders sweep the day in Shawnee with a 5-4 thriller over Oklahoma Baptist in game one and a run-rule victory in game two, 10-2

SHAWNEE, Okla. – No. 12-ranked Lady Muleriders swept the GAC doubleheader over Oklahoma Baptist on Friday evening after an exciting 5-4 win in the first game, followed by a run-rule victory in game two that saw SAU's offense combine for 10 runs on 12 hits that led to a 10-2 final decision in the sixth inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME ONE:

Southern Arkansas broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning to grab a 1-0 lead over Oklahoma Baptist courtesy of an RBI single to left field off the bat of Jill Roye.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Muleriders tacked on two additional runs to make it 3-0 after Rachel Miller left the yard with a 2-run shot out to left field that plated Maeson Grace, who drew a walk earlier in the inning.

A pair of fielding errors in the top of the fifth inning proved to be costly for SAU as the Lady Bison cut their deficit down to one, 3-2, and eventually took the lead over SAU in the frame after a 2-run homerun out to right field brought it to a 4-2 score, OKBU.

In the bottom of that frame, the Lady Muleriders registered a pair of runs on three hits to reclaim the lead over Oklahoma Baptist, 5-4.

Brooke Goad was delivered a hit-by-pitch to lead off that frame and was relieved at first base by pinch runner Hallie Saintignan, where she would quickly find herself in scoring position after Roye poked a pitch into left field that advanced Saintignan to second base.

Marina Duran would be the one to knot the game at 4-all in that sequence as she laced a pitch into left field that plated Saintignan and, later in the inning, Grace plated the go-ahead run with a base-knock that pushed the Lady Muleriders to its eventual 5-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED- GAME TWO:

The Lady Bison led 1-0 after the first inning courtesy of an RBI single, but Southern Arkansas quickly answered in the bottom of the second and scored a pair of runs on a pair of hits to take the lead over Oklahoma Baptist, 2-1.

Kiara Bonner knocked in the first pair of runs for SAU as she banged a 2-RBI double into center field to give the Lady Muleriders the advantage.

SAU added three runs on a pair of hits in the next inning to extend its lead out to 5-1 over the Lady Bison. Miller led off that frame with a walk and Goad would later plate her on an RBI double to right field to make it 3-1, SAU.

Monica Islava tacked on the next pair of runs for SAU in the inning with a 2-RBI dinger over the center field wall, 5-1.

A solo homerun for the Lady Bison in the top of the fourth inning brought them within three, but solid pitching and defense from SAU kept OKBU offense from scoring any more runs in the contest as SAU tacked on five additional runs over the next three innings to pull away with the run-rule decision in the sixth inning, 10-2.
