Firefighters battling wildfires in Kansas, Nebraska

 


TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Firefighters are battling dozens of wildfires in Kansas and Nebraska.

In Nebraska, a burned man was found crawling in a McCook farm field Tuesday afternoon as 50 mph wind gusts whipped flames down a ravine toward the Red Willow County community of 7,500 people. He has been transferred to a burn center.

Firefighters were dispatched Wednesday to eliminate dangerous hot spots left by a wildfire that destroyed a house and blackened hundreds of acres as it threatened McCook.

So far, authorities say the 50 fires in Kansas have burned about 40 square miles (103.6 square kilometers...
