2018 Woods County Stocker Cattle contest saw increased participation
March 11, 2018
Ten junior 4-H members and three senior 4-H members from the Alva and Waynoka 4-H clubs entered 30 heifers and 18 steers in the 2017-18 Woods County Stocker Cattle contest. This is a significant increase in participation from the previous year. The cattle were weighed on Nov. 18, 2017, to begin the contest. Final weights were taken on March 3, 2018, and the record books and contestant interviews held on March 6. Points were awarded for the cattle performance in the average-daily-gain and increased-stocker-value categories as well as the contestant's record book quality and interview proficiency.
Colby Mackey placed first in the senior age group of the steer division with Sagelyn Budy placing second and Tabor Budy third. In the steer contest for the junior age group, Davin Budy edged out Cade Mackey by just two/tenths of a point. Jessica Goucher placed third.
In the senior age group in the heifer division, Sagelyn Budy place first and Tabor Budy second. The heifer junior-age group had nine pens entered and was very competitive. Brady Lott place first, Mackinze Mackey second and Avery McMurphy was third. Other junior heifer contest entries included Jessica Goucher, Jordan Lohmann, Davin Budy, Jagger Lohmann and Ruston Erickson.
Thanks go to Stocker Contest Committee members Jimmie Allen, Mike Mackey, Chad Budy, Cody McMurphy and Tim Ohm.
