SNU falls to St. Cloud State in program's first NCAA Tournament Appearance

MARYVILLE, Mo. — An incredible season that wasn't even dreamed of in November, came to an abrupt close as Southern Nazarene fell 81-68 to St. Cloud State in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Basketball Central Region Tournament Saturday.

Jhonathan Dunn scored a team-high 22 points and added four rebounds as he was 10-for-20 from the field. Micah Speight had 16 points with seven coming on eight free throw attempts. He also added eight assists and eight rebounds. Noah Starkey also had 14 points and five rebounds in just 24 minutes as he battled foul trouble for nearly all of the second half.

St. Cloud State (24-8) got a game-high 27 from Gage Davis who went 14-for-16 at the line. The Huskies doubled SNU's total at the line as they went 28-for-36, 18-for-23 in the second half, while the Storm (27-3) went 15-for-18. SNU shot 43.1 percent from the field, but went just 3-for-11 from downtown. The Huskies shot 25-for-48 from the floor and were held to just 3-for-13 shooting from beyond the arc.

SNU led by as much as 10 in the first half at 27-17 after Speight hit a pair of free throws to complete a 9-0 run with 7:35 left in the first. The Storm led 30-21 with 6:13 left, but St. Could State though closed the half with a 17-10 run to cut it to 40-38 at the half.

The Crimson Storm turned it over four times in the first four minutes as it was held scoreless for nearly six minutes to start the second half. The Huskies opened the second half on a 21-4 run to lead 59-44 with 11:40 to play. The Storm then used a 16-6 run, capped by a Speight trey, but that was as close as SNU came the rest of the day.

The Storm had 17 turnovers on the day, the most they have had in 24 games.
